Timberland originating in 1953 when Nathan Swartz an Ukrainian Shoemaker  bought half-interest in the Abington Shoe Company in Boston, Massachussetts. Swartz and his sons eventually acquired the remaining shares. Through the 1960s the company made its C.R.E.A.M. by manufacturing boots for private labels. In 1969, Abington moved to New Hampshire and focused on producing waterproof boots made with injection molding, capable of withstanding the winters of the region. In 1973 the Timberland boot was first released and has remained popular ever since. The popularity grew and lead to become its own brand in 1974. In 1986 the company went public and by 2011 was sold to the value of $2 Billion. Timberland is renowned within the Hip Hop culture and is a formidable force to be reckoned with.
