Nike originated in in 1964 under its former name Blue Ribbon Sports. It was founded by Bill Bowerman, a track and field coach at the University of Oregon and his former student Phil Knight. Michael Air Jordan signed to Nike in 1984 when he left North Carolina University and was #3 draft pick. Jordan is one of the reasons why Nike is so popular today. It was a five-year deal worth $500,000 per year. This was double the amount Adidas’ offered, the other shoe company that was Jordan’s first choice. Nike projected to sell $3 million worth of Air Jordans in three years. They completely missed the mark as they bagged a whopping $126 million in the first year alone. Now Jordan brand makes $3 million every 5 minutes. With figures like that it's quite evident the Air Jordan Brand is now stronger than ever.
