Helly Hansen originated in 1877, when Captain Helly Juell Hansen saw a need for better protection from the harsh Norwegian elements. He and his wife, Maren Margarethe, began soaking coarse linen with linseed oil. This state of the art process resulted in water resistant clothing for workers at sea, and Helly Hansen was born. Helly Tech originated in 1980's has kept enthusiasts in the outdoors dry and comfortable by letting condensation and perspiration escape while keeping rain, wind and snow out. I was first given a Helly Hansen packable jacket for Christmas when I was about 5. I still have the jacket somewhere after years of use. Helly Hansen quality is up there as some of the best for wet and cold weather.
