YSL (Yves Saint Laurent) was started by himself and Pierre Berge in 1962. Saint Laurent specialised in high end women's wear, including dresses & cosmetics. The brand expanded in the 80's & 90's into Mens and Women's Fragrances through its cosmetic lines. In 1997 Pierre appointed Hedi Slimane as the Art Director how was the head couture menswear at Dior Homme prior. In 1999 they appointed Tom Ford to design ready to wear dressed, while Yves designed the the haute couture collections. Tom had 2 dressed which were 'Dress of the year' in 2001 & 2004. YSL has always been a power house in the fashion world and is most commonly known now for there hand bags. They aren't cheap anyone who owns one knows how chic they are.
